Temporary Damage to Fences outside White House
The U.S. Secret Service has reported that certain fences outside the White House were damaged during a recent demonstration. The incident prompted the relocation of staff members and journalists as a precautionary measure. President Biden, however, is currently at Camp David.
Swift Repair Action by Secret Service
In an official statement, the Secret Service confirmed that the anti-scale fencing, which had been erected for the event, sustained temporary damage. Fortunately, the issues were promptly repaired on site by the dedicated U.S. Secret Service support teams.
Precautionary Relocation
As a precautionary measure, some media members and staff in close proximity to Pennsylvania Avenue were temporarily relocated while the issue was being addressed. The Secret Service emphasized that no arrests were made in connection with the march, and there was no property damage to the White House or adjacent buildings.
Chief Pamela A. Smith’s Condemnation
Chief Pamela A. Smith issued a strong statement condemning the illegal behavior exhibited by the protesters. While supporting the right to peacefully protest, Smith made it clear that violence, destructive behavior, and criminal activities are not tolerated.
Assault on Officers in Lafayette Park
Chief Smith revealed that some officers were assaulted by the demonstrators in Lafayette Park. Although the majority of the demonstration remained peaceful, there were instances of illegal and destructive behavior, including items being thrown at the officers.
