Republicans Allege White House Obstruction in Biden Investigation
House Republicans, led by Representative Johnson, have hit a roadblock in their investigations into Hunter Biden’s business dealings. Johnson claims that the White House is impeding the investigation by not allowing witnesses to come forward and withholding thousands of pages of documents.
Vote on Resolution Not Equivalent to Impeachment
The impending vote on a resolution to formalize the House impeachment inquiry, scheduled for Wednesday, should not be mistaken for an actual vote to impeach. According to Johnson, this step is necessary to fulfill their constitutional responsibility and is a legal, not political, decision.
Following the Path of Truth
Johnson asserts that the House Republicans cannot prejudge the outcome of the investigation and must follow the truth wherever it leads. He underlines that the Constitution does not permit rushing the process, emphasizing the importance of following the facts.
Commitment to the Rule of Law
When asked about the possibility of absolving President Trump months before the presidential election, Johnson emphasizes that the outcome is not to be prejudged. He reiterates that the Republican team is committed to following the law and the rule of law.
Continuing Investigations Despite Obstruction
The Wednesday vote will enable the House Judiciary, Oversight, and Ways and Means committees to continue their investigations into the Biden family’s business dealings. House Majority Whip Rep. Tom Emmer accuses the Biden administration of stonewalling their investigations by withholding documents and refusing testimonies.
Enforcing Subpoenas and Setting a Clear Process
Emmer states that passing the resolution will strengthen the House’s position in defending their lawful investigations in court. He emphasizes that voting in favor of an impeachment inquiry does not equate to impeachment itself, and further steps will only be considered if evidence of treason, bribery, or high crimes and misdemeanors emerges.
