Blakey to take the helm from current Superintendent Scott Elder

Gabriella Durán Blakey, a dedicated education professional with over 20 years of experience in the Albuquerque Public Schools (APS), has been chosen as the new Superintendent. She will succeed current Superintendent Scott Elder when his contract expires on June 30.
Elder, who has successfully led the largest school district in the state for over three years, expressed confidence in Blakey’s abilities to continue the district’s growth and success.
Blakey’s long-standing commitment to APS
Blakey, an Albuquerque native, has an impressive history with APS. She has served in various roles including teacher, assistant principal, principal, and associate superintendent since joining the district more than two decades ago.
With her years of dedication and extensive experience within APS, Blakey is well-equipped to lead the district into the future.
Responsibilities and goals
As the new Superintendent, Blakey will be responsible for overseeing instruction and services for more than 68,000 students. Additionally, she will manage the daily operations of over 140 schools within the district.
