The Best Wide Receiver Supports His Teammate
In an interview, Vikings star wide receiver Justin Jefferson expressed his unwavering support for quarterback Kirk Cousins. Despite the criticism Cousins often faces, Jefferson believes in his teammate’s abilities.
Jefferson, widely recognized as the best wide receiver in the league, will enter the fifth year of his rookie contract next season. While he is expected to receive a lucrative extension, he has made it clear that he prefers catching passes from Cousins in 2024.
Faith in Cousins
Jefferson praised Cousins for his leadership, game control, and exceptional throws. The young receiver believes that while some may underestimate Cousins, the rest of the world is beginning to recognize his talent.
Cousins has already thrown for 2,331 yards, 18 touchdowns, and only five interceptions in just eight games this season. Despite being sidelined for several weeks, he still leads the league with an average of 291.4 passing yards per game.
Cousins recently attended a game for the first time since his injury, providing Jefferson with extra motivation before his announcement to the home crowd. Jefferson highlighted the strong connection he shares with his quarterback, emphasizing the importance of their relationship on and off the field.
Jefferson’s Opinion
When asked if he would voice his opinion to the organization about Cousins’ future with the team, Jefferson stated that he believes his statistics and gameplay speak for themselves. However, he did mention that he would always go the extra mile to support Cousins.
The Vikings have had multiple quarterbacks start games in Cousins’ absence, including rookies Jaren Hall and and veteran Nick Mullens. The team’s head coach, Kevin O’Connell, stated that they are still deciding on the starting quarterback for Week 17 against Green Bay.
Jefferson refrained from endorsing a specific quarterback but acknowledged Jaren Hall’s potential and the confidence the team has in whoever takes the field.
The support from Jefferson is a testament to the strong bond between the teammates, both on and off the field. Their connection and shared goals have been instrumental in the Vikings’ success this season.
