Members of Texas Republican delegation express support for Governor Abbott’s efforts
Members of the Texas Republican delegation have written a letter to Governor Greg Abbott, urging him to “hold the line” against the Biden Administration’s immigration policies and do everything possible to protect the state’s southern border. The letter acknowledges the recent Supreme Court decision vacating the protective stay issued by the 5th Circuit and criticizes the Biden Administration’s support for the removal of razor wire.
The group emphasizes the importance of federalism and states’ rights to protect their sovereignty, while also condemning the “reckless” border policies that endanger American sovereignty. They express their appreciation for Governor Abbott’s leadership during this challenging time and urge him to continue using all available resources and constitutional authority to enforce border security.
Rep. Tony Gonzalez, the only member of the Texas Republican delegation who did not sign the letter, clarified that his omission was not intentional. He affirms his support for Governor Abbott’s efforts to push back against the Biden administration and stands with Texas.
In response to the letter, Governor Abbott’s spokesperson expresses gratitude for the support and reiterates his commitment to acting in the best interest of Texas. The Governor’s resolve to enforce border security using available resources and constitutional authority has garnered the support of the American people, who stand with Texas against the illegal alien invasion facilitated by cartels and the Biden Administration.
The feud between Governor Abbott and the Biden administration revolves around border enforcement and Texas’ authority to defend itself against the overwhelming influx of migrants. The dispute began in 2021 when the migrant crisis escalated and Texas deployed additional resources to the border. The administration has filed lawsuits against Texas over an anti-illegal immigration law allowing state and local law enforcement to arrest illegal immigrants, as well as the state’s installation of buoys in the Rio Grande. The Biden administration argues that immigration enforcement is the responsibility of the federal government, accusing Texas of interference.
Last week, the Supreme Court ruled in a 5-4 decision to temporarily overturn a lower court’s injunction that prevented the federal government from removing razor fencing installed by Texas. In response, Governor Abbott asserted his state’s constitutional authority to defend itself against an invasion and accused the executive branch of shirking its duty to enforce federal immigration laws.
Governor Abbott has garnered support from more than two dozen Republican states who have publicly expressed their backing for Texas. In contrast, some have called on the Biden administration to take control of the National Guard.
