Swift Makes Music History
According to reports, Taylor Swift has now spent a record-breaking 68 weeks at the top of the Billboard 200 chart. This achievement surpasses Elvis Presley’s 67 weeks at No. 1 across his 10 albums between 1956 and 2022.
A Series of Chart-Topping Albums
Swift’s journey to the top began with her 2008 album “Fearless,” which spent 11 weeks at No. 1. She continued her reign with albums such as “Speak Now” (2010), “Red” (2012), “1989” (2014), “Reputation” (2017), “Lover” (2019), “Folklore” (2020), “Evermore” (2020), and “Midnights” (2022). These releases contributed 47 additional weeks at the top.
Rerecorded Albums Seal the Deal
Swift’s rerecorded albums, including “Fearless (Taylor’s Version)” (2021), “Red (Taylor’s Version)” (2021), “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)” (2023), and “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” (2023), added another 10 No. 1 albums to her name on the Billboard 200.
Still Chasing the Fab Four
Although Swift has surpassed Elvis Presley, she has yet to conquer the Beatles, who hold the record for the most weeks at No. 1 with their 19 albums between 1964 and 2001.
Taylor Swift’s Unstoppable Success
Swift’s music career continues to soar. Her hugely successful Eras Tour, which began in March and concluded in November, saw her perform in 35 shows across various countries. In October, her film “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” achieved blockbuster ticket sales of $92.8 million in the U.S.
Record-Breaking Achievements
Aside from surpassing Elvis Presley, Swift has also become the first living artist to have five albums in the Top 10 simultaneously, a feat previously accomplished only by Prince after his death in 2016. In July, she broke Barbra Streisand’s record by becoming the female artist with the most No. 1 albums in history with “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version).”
A spokesperson for Taylor Swift has not yet commented on this achievement.
Presley’s longest-running No. 1 album, the “Blue Hawaii” soundtrack, spent 20 weeks on the Billboard charts from 1961 to 1962, according to The Guardian. Four of his 10 No. 1 albums were soundtracks.
