Players Bundle Up in Extra Headgear
Singer-songwriter Taylor Swift made a bold fashion statement at the freezing Chiefs-Dolphins game, donning an oversized jacket featuring the name and number of Travis Kelce. The cold weather didn’t stop her from showing her support.
Not only Swift, but players themselves were seen wearing extra headgear to keep their heads insulated from the frigid temperatures. As they warmed up, their red faces and visible breath highlighted the extreme conditions they were playing in.
Concerns Over Weather
The weather became a major concern among NFL fans when the Buffalo Bills-Pittsburgh Steelers game in Orchard Park, New York, had to be postponed due to the extreme conditions. Robert Griffin III even implored the NFL to consider doing the same with the Chiefs-Dolphins game.
However, Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas maintained that the city was “playoff ready” despite the dangerous cold, showing resilience in the face of adversity.
One of the Coldest Games in NFL History
This Chiefs-Dolphins game is likely to go down as one of the coldest in NFL history. The infamous “Ice Bowl” of 1967, played between the Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys, took place in minus 13-degree weather with a bone-chilling wind chill of minus 48.
In 2016, the Minnesota Vikings played in the third-coldest game in NFL history. The wild-card matchup kicked off at minus 6 degrees, with a frosty wind chill of minus 25. The game took place at TCF Bank Stadium, adding to the freezing legacy of NFL games.
Despite the freezing temperatures, the Chiefs-Dolphins game went on, showcasing the resilience and determination of both teams to battle it out on the field, no matter the elements.
