Uiagalelei Chooses Florida State over Other Programs
In a surprising turn of events, highly sought-after quarterback DJ Uiagalelei has committed to the Florida State Seminoles. Uiagalelei made the announcement in an interview with ESPN, expressing his excitement to join the program and work with Coach Mike Norvell. Despite considering other options, Uiagalelei was locked in on Florida State from the beginning and did not visit any other schools.
“I wanted to be a Seminole. I wanted to be part of the program,” Uiagalelei stated. He also expressed his gratitude towards Florida State for their support throughout the recruitment process.
Quarterback Situation at FSU
Uiagalelei’s decision comes at a crucial time for the Seminoles, as they have been dealing with a tumultuous quarterback situation. Season-ending injuries to Jordan Travis and Tate Rodemaker, the backup quarterback, have caused instability in the position. True freshman Brock Glenn started in the ACC Championship Game, leading the Seminoles to victory.
The quarterback issues ultimately led to Florida State’s exclusion from the College Football Playoff, despite their impressive 13-0 record and ACC championship title. CFP committee chair Boo Corrigan cited the team’s reliance on Travis and their performance without him as determining factors in the decision to rank them fifth.
Uiagalelei’s College Career
Prior to committing to Florida State, Uiagalelei had a successful stint at Clemson before deciding to transfer after his junior year. In his lone season at Oregon State, he showcased his talent by throwing for 2,638 yards, 21 touchdowns, and adding six touchdowns on the ground.
With Uiagalelei’s commitment, Florida State hopes to regain stability and strengthen their quarterback position for the upcoming season. Fans and analysts alike are eager to see how Uiagalelei’s talents will contribute to the Seminoles’ success on the field.
