As the National Dog Show celebrated its 22nd year, Stache, a Sealyham terrier, triumphed as the Best in Show winner. This annual event has witnessed 19 different breeds claim the coveted title throughout its history. Among the notable winners, the wire fox terrier and the Scottish deerhound stand out as the only breeds to secure this honor on two occasions.
The competition at the National Dog Show brings together the first-place winners from seven distinct groups: terrier, toy, working, sporting, hound, non-sporting, and herding. These elite dogs then vie for the prestigious title of Best in Show, showcasing their unique qualities and skills.
In the previous edition of the show, a 3-year-old French bulldog named Winston clinched the title. The Best in Show winner not only earns accolades but also a substantial $20,000 prize, making this one of the most prestigious dog shows globally.
The National Dog Show, a tradition spanning over 125 years, is organized by the Kennel Club of Philadelphia and enjoys authorization from the American Kennel Club. This esteemed event draws participation from up to 2,000 dogs representing an impressive array of 205 breeds and varieties. The competition features categories such as Best of Breed and First in Group, adding to the excitement and prestige.
