New York Jets head coach, Robert Saleh, has refrained from naming the starting quarterback for the team’s Week 14 matchup against the Houston Texans on Sunday.
The Jets made a significant move during the offseason by acquiring Aaron Rodgers. However, their plans were derailed when Rodgers suffered a substantial Achilles injury, lasting only four snaps into his debut with the team.
Zach Wilson, a third-year quarterback and former No. 2 overall draft pick, was designated as the starter following Rodgers’ injury. Initially, Wilson demonstrated promise, leading the Jets to a 4-3 start, including an upset victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. However, the team’s offensive performance subsequently declined, struggling to advance the football effectively.
Between Week 8 and Week 11, the Jets endured a challenging stretch of 13 consecutive quarters without scoring a touchdown. Although this streak ended in a game against the Buffalo Bills, Saleh decided to bench Wilson during the third quarter of their 32-6 defeat at Highmark Stadium.
The performance with quarterback Tim Boyle at the helm did not show significant improvement for the Jets’ offense. The team suffered losses in both games with the 29-year-old Boyle as the starter. Subsequently, Boyle was replaced by Trevor Siemian in a Week 13 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons, further complicating the team’s quarterback situation.
