Creating a Character
In an interview with Fox News Digital, Kurt Russell discussed working with his son, Wyatt, on a project where the character wasn’t initially written for them. The father-son duo put in a lot of effort to make the casting idea pay off.
Finding Inspiration
Kurt revealed that he found inspiration in Wyatt’s work, watching him and learning from his skills. He aimed to improve his own performance by falling into the rhythm set by his son.
Personal Control and Saying ‘No’
Wyatt shared advice from his dad that goes beyond the camera. He emphasized the importance of liking what you do and not letting others dictate your career choices. Having control over your decisions and being able to say ‘no’ is crucial.
Letting Go and Accepting Collaboration
On the other hand, Kurt stressed the importance of giving up control when saying ‘yes’ to a project. He explained that, at that point, someone else takes the reins and may edit your performance. Being okay with that is part of the collaborative process.
A Festive Family
Kurt and his long-time partner, Goldie Hawn, have a big family that makes holidays truly festive. They have even played Santa and Mrs. Claus in Netflix movies. Kurt mentioned that the character inspirations for Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus came from his own family and the joy he experiences with his children and grandchildren.
The Joy of Grandparenting
Wyatt and his wife, Meredith, are expecting their second child and are thrilled to have Kurt and Goldie as grandparents nearby. Wyatt spoke highly of his parents’ grandparenting skills, describing them as invested and always wanting to be around their grandchildren. He also praised his in-laws for being exceptional grandparents.
A Playful Exchange
During the interview, Wyatt playfully teased his dad about catching him sleeping on grandparent duty, to which Kurt jokingly responded that he had one eye open. It was all in good fun.
The Legacy
Kurt and Goldie have a blended family, with children from previous relationships. They cherish the opportunity to create memories with their grandchildren and hope that their influence will positively impact their lives. They consider themselves lucky to have such invested and loving grandparents.
A Final Note
Kurt added humorously that if their grandchildren turn out to be lousy or messed-up, it won’t be the grandparents’ fault on either side. They are committed to being the best grandparents they can be.
