A History of Success
Jim Harbaugh and Greg Roman are no strangers to working together. Their coaching partnership began at Stanford, where Roman served as the associate head coach to Harbaugh with the Cardinal. The duo then made the leap to the NFL, with Roman becoming Harbaugh’s offensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers from 2011 to 2014. During their time together, the 49ers achieved great success, reaching multiple NFC Championship Games and making it to the Super Bowl in 2012.
A Super Bowl Showdown
One of the highlights of their tenure in San Francisco was the Super Bowl matchup in 2012, where the 49ers, led by Harbaugh, faced off against the Baltimore Ravens, coached by his brother John Harbaugh. It was a historic meeting of the Harbaugh brothers on the grandest stage of them all.
A Journey Apart
After Harbaugh’s departure from the 49ers, Roman continued his NFL journey as the offensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills for two seasons. He then took on roles as an offensive assistant with the Carolina Panthers and the Houston Texans. In 2019, Roman reunited with John Harbaugh, becoming the offensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens.
The Reunion in Los Angeles
Now, Jim Harbaugh and Greg Roman are set to join forces once again. Harbaugh, who recently became the head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers, has appointed Roman as his offensive coordinator. This reunion brings together two minds that have proven their ability to develop successful offenses in the past.
A Promising Future
With the Chargers’ young and talented quarterback, Justin Herbert, leading the offense, the addition of Harbaugh and Roman promises an exciting future for the team. As Harbaugh builds his coaching staff, the experience and expertise of Roman will play a crucial role in nurturing Herbert’s growth and maximizing the team’s potential.
The Chargers are eager to kick off the Harbaugh Era on a strong note, and the reunion with Roman sets the stage for an offensive powerhouse in Los Angeles.
