Lawrence Expected to Start Against Tampa Bay
After going through the concussion protocol, Trevor Lawrence, the star quarterback for the Jacksonville Jaguars, has received clearance and traveled with the team to Tampa Bay. He is now expected to take the field on Sunday as the Jaguars aim to end their three-game losing streak and maintain their position atop the AFC South.
Recovery from Head Injury and Ankle Injury
Lawrence’s return comes after practicing for the first time all week on Friday and receiving clearance from both team doctors and the league’s independent neurological consultant. However, it is important to note that he is still dealing with an ankle injury he sustained in Week 13.
The head injury is believed to have occurred during a play in Week 15 when Lawrence scrambled. Despite completing the game, he struggled with his passing accuracy after the hit, raising concerns about his health. Lawrence reported concussion-like symptoms after the game.
Concussion Protocol Success Stories
It is worth mentioning that several players, including Browns receiver Amari Cooper and Saints wideout Chris Olave, have successfully gone through the concussion protocol and played the following week. This gives hope to the Jaguars and their fans that Lawrence will be able to perform at his best.
Overcoming Challenges
The Jaguars are already dealing with injuries to left tackle Cam Robinson, as well as receivers Christian Kirk and Zay Jones. Losing Lawrence would have posed an even greater challenge for the franchise, which is striving to secure back-to-back playoff appearances for the first time since 1998-99.
Lawrence’s Season Performance
During this season, Trevor Lawrence has thrown for 3,525 yards, 18 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. He has also contributed four rushing scores and six fumbles, while facing a career-high tying 32 sacks.
