‘Grant expresses his dislike for his role in the upcoming musical’
In a recent press conference, renowned actor Hugh Grant spoke about his uncomfortable experience filming the highly anticipated movie “Wonka.” Grant stars alongside Timothée Chalamet, Olivia Colman, Keegan Michael-Key, and more in this lavish big-screen musical.
Grant, 63, reportedly described his role as a “crown of thorns” and expressed his dislike for the entire experience. “It was very uncomfortable, and I made a big fuss about it… I couldn’t have hated the whole thing more,” he said.
‘Grant’s sacrifices for his family’
Grant also jokingly confessed that he had to make some sacrifices when signing up for the role in order to provide for his family. “I slightly hate making films, but I have lots of children and need money,” he shared.
Grant has a total of five children. He shares two children, Tabitha (12) and Felix (9), with his ex-partner Tinglan Hong. He also has three children, aged 11, 6, and 5, with his wife Anna Eberstein.
‘The impact of movie effects on Grant’s performance’
The movie effects used in “Wonka” were reportedly out of the ordinary for Grant. He revealed that they greatly impacted his acting in the film. “What I did with my body was terrible, and it’s all been replaced with an animator,” he said. Grant also expressed dissatisfaction with the dancing portion of the film, stating, “It should be fun, but that was done by the animator… It’s very confusing with CGI now; you can’t tell what’s going on.”
Grant and director Paul King have previously worked together on films like “Paddington 2.” King explained his decision to cast Grant as an Oompa Loompa in “Wonka,” saying, “They’re so biting and satirical and funny, but they’ve got a real kind of edge to them… and they take an enormous delight in these children’s demise. I had this vision of Hugh Grant, you know, this high with orange skin and green hair. And once you have that picture come into your mind, you have to try and get it out there.”
