Black Lives Matter Week of Action Promotes Troubling Ideas
A report by Parents Defending Education (PDE), a grassroots organization dedicated to combatting indoctrination in classrooms, has shed light on the curriculum being promoted during the Black Lives Matter (BLM) Week of Action in several school districts across different states. The report also highlights the alarming alignment of BLM with Hamas terrorists’ talking points.
Critical Examination of BLM Week of Action
PDE’s report scrutinizes the curriculums endorsed during the BLM Week of Action, revealing concerning aspects that appear to stem from Black Lives Matter at School’s statement following the atrocious Oct. 7 attack by Hamas terrorists. The attack resulted in the brutal murder and rape of over 1,200 Israeli men, women, and children, including infants. Shockingly, the group blamed Israel for the attack.
In their statement, Black Lives Matter at School asserted, “BLM@School wants to be clear in our recognition that this unfolding loss of Palestinian and Israeli lives is the direct result of decades of Israeli settler colonialism, land dispossession, occupation, blockade, apartheid, and attempted genocide of millions of Palestinians. Palestinians are reminding us that decolonization is not a metaphor or abstraction, but requires real, daily struggle.”
The PDE report reveals how this troubling sentiment permeates the principles of the BLM Week of Action. For instance, the curriculum advocated by the Chicago Teachers Union includes radical ideas from the Civil Rights era. While a previous version of their 10-point plan mentioned “robbery by the White man” within the Black community, subsequent versions replaced “White man” with “Capitalists,” with the latter being taught in Chicago schools this week.
Disturbing Curriculum Content
According to the report, the Berkeley Unified School District’s teaching resource guide features a resource titled “4 Things We Can Do to Prepare to Teach BLM at School Week.” This resource calls on teachers to “reflect” on their implementation of restorative justice practices, demand mandated Black history and ethnic studies curricula, and ensure classrooms are “Trans affirming and Queer affirming.”
The report further highlights the Los Angeles Unified School District’s plan to teach Black Lives Matter at School’s 13 guiding principles. These principles include striving for a “queer-affirming network where heteronormative thinking no longer exists.” Additionally, the principles endorse a belief referred to as “Black villages,” described as the “disruption of Western nuclear family dynamics.”
Numerous schools across the country intend to promote the broader BLM movement, as well as principles that are anti-“whiteness” and anti-Israel.
Concerns Raised by Parents Defending Education
Nicole Neily, President of PDE, expressed astonishment at the decision of districts nationwide to hold the BLM Week of Action. In a statement to Fox News Digital, she stated, “For years, parents have raised concerns about a week of activism that prioritizes ‘queer affirming’ and ‘disrupting the western nuclear family’ over addressing learning loss. However, BLM’s unwavering support for Hamas should have been the final straw for this abysmal curriculum. The best way to set all students on a path to success is to teach them reading, writing, and math skills—not to encourage division and victimhood.“
