Unconventional Strategy
A dedicated fan at a college basketball game took spectator antics to a whole new level. During a game between the Golden Grizzlies and Cleveland State, a group of male fans decided to go shirtless below one of the baskets in the second half. However, one fan took it even further by getting a haircut right there in the stands.
A Trim Mid-Game
As Cleveland State’s Tevin Smith prepared to take a free throw, down 19 points, this daring fan pulled out a pair of clippers. With the crowd watching in disbelief, the fan proceeded to give himself a buzz cut. The distraction seemed to have an impact, as Smith only made one of his shots.
The Buzz Spreads
Not wanting to be left out, the rest of the shirtless fans also opted for buzz cuts. It remains unclear if this unconventional tactic had been employed throughout the entire game. Nonetheless, spectators found the situation amusing and couldn’t help but watch in amusement.
A Successful Distraction?
If the buzz cuts were indeed a deliberate strategy, they seemed to have paid off. The Oakland players were in top form at the free-throw line, making all 23 of their shots. In contrast, the Cleveland State players only managed to convert 8 out of 13 attempts (61.5%). The distraction, intentional or not, may have played a role in Oakland’s eventual 83-71 victory.
In a game filled with skill and strategy, this fan’s unconventional haircut mid-game provided an unexpected moment of entertainment. While it remains to be seen if others will follow suit, this incident certainly added an amusing twist to an already exciting college basketball match.
