Humble Leader and Dedicated Jurist Remembered
In a tragic turn of events, the Bossier-Webster District Attorney’s office is mourning the loss of Judge Jeff Pittard, who served as the lead prosecutor for over a decade. Pittard, a respected figure in the legal community, was in his second term as a 26th Judicial District Judge serving in Division C.
A Loss Felt by Many
Judge Pittard’s passing has left a void that will be deeply felt not only by his colleagues but also by the wider community. Representative Mike Johnson, who represents Louisiana’s 4th Congressional District, expressed his sorrow and remembered Pittard as a “humble leader and a dedicated jurist who served our area honorably.” The congressman extended his condolences to the Pittard family and the community surrounding the 26th Judicial District Court.
A Life of Service
Born and raised in Minden, Judge Pittard graduated from Northwestern State University in 1978, earning a degree in business administration. After completing law school in 1992, he moved with his family to the Shreveport-Bossier area, where he built a successful career in law and managed his own private law practice for two decades.
A Tremendous Loss
The news of Judge Pittard’s passing has hit the Bossier Parish hard. Bossier Parish Clerk of Court Jill Sessions described it as a “tremendous loss” and emphasized the warm and kind nature of the judge. Reflecting on their memories together, Sessions mentioned Pittard’s infectious laughter and the warmth of his smile captured in photographs. She added, “As the news breaks with sadness, while the courthouse flags are lowered, and while we are all in a state of heartache, he is looking down on us strumming an old classic or hymn on his bass guitar.”
Special Election to Fill the Void
Although Pittard’s term as judge was scheduled to expire in December 2026, his resignation notice, effective next year, adds another layer of complexity. Qualifying for a special election to fill the remainder of his term began on Wednesday, with the election set to take place on March 23.
Farewell, Judge Pittard
As the community grapples with this sudden loss, funeral arrangements for Judge Pittard are currently pending. His legacy as a compassionate and dedicated public servant will live on, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
