Arrest following missed meeting
Tampa Bay Rays star player, Wander Franco, was arrested after failing to appear for a meeting with Prosecutor Olga Diná Llaverías. This arrest comes just days after the police visited two homes in Franco’s hometown in Baní, but he was not found at either location. According to reports, his failure to appear with the prosecutor led to his arrest. Under Dominican law, he must be brought before a judge within 24 hours.
Allegations of relationships with underage girls
Franco had been placed on administrative leave on August 22 while Major League Baseball (MLB) investigated his alleged relationships with underage girls. At least two individuals have filed legal action against the baseball player, and sources indicate that he is currently being investigated for an alleged relationship with a third minor. This investigation falls under MLB’s joint domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse policy with the players’ association.
Rays express support for MLB investigation
The Tampa Bay Rays expressed their support for the MLB investigation into Franco’s alleged misconduct. In a statement, the team stated, “We support Major League Baseball’s decision to place Wander Franco on Administrative Leave. The Tampa Bay Rays are dedicated to upholding high standards of integrity both on and off the field. We appreciate the understanding and patience of our fans and supporters as this process unfolds. We will have no further statements on this matter until MLB completes its process.”
Rays’ rising star
Franco, who was an All-Star for the first time this season, signed an 11-year, $182 million contract extension in November 2021. However, a team option in 2033 could potentially increase the value of the deal to $233 million. His last game was on August 12 before being placed on leave.
Response from the Rays
The Rays have not commented further on the matter since their initial statement of support for the MLB investigation. As of now, they have not responded to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
