Unfortunately, the situation escalated, with Anderson attempting to retrieve McGann’s gun. In an act of self-defense, West lunged at Anderson with a knife, causing him to drop the weapon. Tragically, McGann fired three shots, resulting in Anderson’s death. Both West and McGann were charged with first-degree murder, but their sentences differed.
A Father’s Choice
While McGann accepted a plea deal and served five years in prison, West chose to decline the same deal, as it was McGann who had fired the fatal shots. However, West was found guilty of second-degree murder and sentenced to a longer time behind bars. Despite the unfairness of the situation, West remained determined to fight for his freedom and reunion with his loved ones.
A Lifeline from the Dallas Mavericks
Fortunately, West’s prayers were answered when his former team, the Dallas Mavericks, stepped in to offer support. With their assistance, West was granted parole in July and released from prison. This news brought immense relief and hope to both him and his son, Finney-Smith.

Christmas became an even more special occasion this year as West was finally able to spend it with his son. The reunion was filled with overwhelming emotions and gratitude.
