Superhero Days Behind Him
In a recent interview, actor George Clooney made it clear that he has no intention of ever reprising his role as Batman. When asked if he would consider returning to the iconic superhero role, Clooney replied, “I was like, ‘Well it’s not really my Batman, is it?'”. He then humorously added, “I don’t think there’s enough drugs in the world for me to go back.”
Acknowledging a Notorious Film
Clooney famously portrayed Batman in the widely ridiculed 1997 film “Batman & Robin,” which also starred Arnold Schwarzenegger as Mr. Freeze. The Warner Bros. production received scathing reviews from critics and is often referenced as one of the franchise’s low points. Clooney himself is well aware of the movie’s reputation and frequently jokes about it when discussing his time as Batman.
A Warning to a Friend
In 2019, Clooney revealed that he advised his friend Ben Affleck against taking on the role of Batman in the 2016 film “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.” Clearly reflecting on his own experience, Clooney offered his insight to Affleck, perhaps hoping to spare him from a similar fate.
Not Asked to Return
Two years ago, Clooney disclosed that he had not been approached to reprise his role in the upcoming film “”, which brings together various superheroes from different dimensions. “They didn’t ask me,” Clooney previously told Variety. “When you destroy a franchise the way I did, usually they look the other way.”
Avoiding Family Embarrassment
Furthermore, Clooney shared that his wife, Amal Clooney, is not permitted to watch “Batman & Robin.” He jokingly explained, “There are certain films I just go, ‘I want my wife to have some respect for me.’” The actor also mentioned that his four-year-old twins, Alexander and Ella, would not be watching the film anytime soon either, as he humorously recounted his son’s negative reaction to it, saying, “It’s bad when your 4-year-old kid goes, ‘This sucks.’ That could be painful.”
