Barkley Stands by the Giants Despite Lack of Contract Extension
Saquon Barkley, the star running back for the New York Giants, has not wavered in his commitment to the team, even after not receiving a long-term contract extension this past offseason. Instead, the Giants chose to give a four-year, $160 million contract to quarterback Daniel Jones. Despite this, Barkley continues to express his respect and admiration for the Giants organization.
Setting Goals and Believing in the Giants
Barkley firmly believes in setting goals and accomplishing them. When asked why he wants to remain a Giant, he stated, “Because I know how special the Giants organization is. I got nothing but tremendous respect for the Tisch family, the Mara family. This is the team that drafted me, and I’m a big believer of setting a goal and accomplishing that goal.”
Barkley had dreams of joining the ranks of Giants legends such as Tiki Barber, Michael Strahan, and Eli Manning. However, he acknowledges that the NFL is a business, and if he is not a Giant next year, wherever he goes, he will bring leadership, hard work, and a fierce competitive spirit to win football games.
Barkley’s Performance and Potential
If the Giants do not extend Barkley’s contract this offseason, he will undoubtedly be a highly sought-after player. Despite a challenging 2020 season that ended prematurely due to a knee injury, Barkley has shown that he is still one of the elite running backs in the NFL. In the 2023 season, he amassed 1,242 yards from scrimmage (962 rushing, 280 receiving) and scored 10 touchdowns in just 14 games.
Support for Daniel Jones
While Barkley’s performance has remained consistent, Jones struggled with injuries in the 2023 season, ultimately tearing his ACL and being unable to play for the rest of the year. Despite this setback, Barkley continues to support his teammate, praising Jones’ work ethic and determination to bounce back stronger than ever.
Barkley’s Dedication and Mindset
Barkley is well aware of the business side of football and understands that decisions regarding his future with the Giants are out of his control. However, he remains focused on his job and the team’s success. Even though the season took a turn for the worse, Barkley never considered quitting or focusing on potential free agency. He remains committed to competing at a high level with his teammates.
Waiting for the Giants’ Decision
As the offseason unfolds, Barkley patiently awaits the Giants’ decision regarding his future with the team. In the meantime, he is allowing his body to recover and will continue to support his fellow players, as he plans to attend the Super Bowl to cheer on running back Christian McCaffrey. Barkley believes in his abilities and hopes to be rewarded with a contract that reflects his talent and contributions to the team.
