City Crews Work to Prevent Dangerous Incidents
Los Angeles city crews have initiated efforts to secure a series of unfinished high-rise towers in downtown Los Angeles, which have fallen victim to vandalism and dangerous activities. The development, which was left incomplete due to funding issues in 2019, has become a hotspot for trespassers engaging in risky stunts like BASE jumping and graffiti vandalism.
Securing the Property
City workers have started by dismantling scaffolding that was being misused by trespassers to access the property. Police Sergeant Gordon Helper expressed concerns about the potential for serious injuries or fatalities, emphasizing the need to prevent any harm to individuals engaging in risky behavior on the premises.
Call for Action
City Councilmember Kevin de León has called for urgent action to address the situation, highlighting the need for a new developer to complete the construction. The estimated costs involved in acquiring the property and finishing the project are substantial, with figures reaching $1.5 billion for completion.
This initiative aims to safeguard public safety and prevent further incidents of trespassing and vandalism in the high-profile downtown area, which includes prominent landmarks like Crypto.com Arena and the Los Angeles Convention Center.
