Italian House to Showcase Cruise Collection in British Capital
London, May 13 – In a major fashion announcement, Gucci revealed today that its upcoming cruise collection will be showcased in the British capital. This news comes as a surprise to fashion editors who are accustomed to traveling long distances to witness cruise offerings. Last year, Gucci presented its collection in Seoul, while Dior chose Mexico City and Louis Vuitton showcased its Men’s Pre-Fall 2024 in Hong Kong. However, following Chanel’s decision to host its Métiers d’art show in Manchester last December, Gucci seems determined to make an impact in the UK market.
While details surrounding the show are still scarce, Gucci fashion shows are known for their star-studded guest lists. In September, for creative director Sabato De Sarno’s debut, A-list celebrities including Julia Roberts, Jessica Chastain, Kendall Jenner, Bad Bunny, and Rylan Gosling flocked to Milan to secure a coveted front row seat. Recently, both Paul Mescal and Billie Eilish have become the faces of Gucci’s latest incarnation.
It is speculated that Sabato drew inspiration from his time in London when he launched the Gucci Cosmos exhibition extravaganza in October. The exhibition delved into the brand’s history and its roots in the British capital. Founded in 1897, Guccio Gucci, the brand’s founder, initially fell in love with leather goods while working as a luggage porter in the Savoy hotel’s lifts. During his visit to the exhibition, Sabato was captivated by the archival pieces and his own designs, which showcased deep reds and 90s Gucci sexiness. Although the location for the upcoming show is yet to be announced, it is expected to be nothing short of impressive. The last time Gucci brought its runway to London was in June 2016, when former creative director Alessandro Michele unveiled his pre-spring/summer 2017 collection at Westminster Abbey, marking the brand’s first-ever fashion show in the historical venue.
