Investigative Subcommittee Established to Determine Violations
The House Committee on Ethics announced on Wednesday that it has unanimously voted to establish an investigative subcommittee to determine whether Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick violated campaign finance laws during her 2022 elections. The subcommittee will also probe allegations that she failed to disclose required information on statements filed with the House and accepted voluntary services for official work from an individual not employed in her congressional office.
Bipartisan Leadership to Oversee the Investigation
Representative Andrew Garbarino, a Republican from New York, will chair the subcommittee, while Representative Chrissy Houlahan, a Democrat from Pennsylvania, will serve as the ranking member. Additionally, Representatives Cliff Bentz from Oregon and Troy Carter from Louisiana will also serve on the subcommittee.
Investigation Initiated by Ethics Committee Referral
The House Committee on Ethics made the decision to initiate this investigation after receiving a referral from the Office of Congressional Ethics. It should be noted that the establishment of an Investigative Subcommittee does not automatically indicate any violation has occurred.
Congresswoman’s Office Responds
In response to the investigation, Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick’s office issued a statement to Fox News Digital, emphasizing her commitment to addressing the matter seriously. The statement highlighted that the mere establishment of an investigative subcommittee does not indicate any violation on her part. The congresswoman is actively working to resolve these allegations.
